FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH 2014

Brooke Holve

Brooke Holve has a deep connection with books - as symbols, objects and vessels of knowledge. Her work examines the changing role of the book, highlighting their persistence in our physical world. She uses book remnants themselves along with a multitude of mixed media and techniques including collage, printmaking, photography and digital media to create sculptures, installations, reliefs and artist’s books. The investigation and celebration of materiality are evident in her process, as well as recalling the orderly and sequential, yet physically editable and naturally incomplete way books preserve and organize information.

Holve has recently shown in a solo exhibition at Risk Press, titled “Cuttings.” She has also shown at The Performance Art Institute, San Francisco, Berkeley Art Center, Sebastopol Center for the Arts and Quicksilver Mine Gallery in Forrestville, where she is represented, among others.
