2024 JURIED EXHIBITION: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

For its 2024 Juried Members Exhibition, the Berkeley Art Center invites artists living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area to submit works in any media. Art works of any theme will be considered. Applications are due March 19, 2024 at 10:59PM PT/11:59PM MT.
Submitting is free for current members. New and renewing members can sign up at a sliding scale of $15–$55 on our membership page. Up to three Juror's Awards will be chosen to receive a one-on-one studio visit with the juror via Zoom, and a special Audience Award will be announced at the exhibition closing.

About the Jurors
PJ Gubatina Policarpio is a curator, educator and community organizer with over 10 years of experience in arts and culture, leading innovative and rigorous initiatives that engage artists and diverse communities. He has organized exhibitions and programming in San Francisco and internationally, including Notes for Tomorrow (Independent Curators International, 2021-Present), Under the Same Sun (Edge on the Square, 2023) Notes on Cultural Evidence (slash art, 2023), Conversations on Carlos Villa: World-Making and Cross-Cultural Solidarity (Asian Art Museum, 2022), Tarsal by Metatarsal (Headlands Center for the Arts, 2021), Solidarity Struggle Victory (Southern Exposure, 2019), and Rally: Queer Art and Activism (Dixon Place, 2017). PJ is co-founder of Pilipinx American Library, an itinerant library and programming platform dedicated to diasporic Filipinx perspectives. His publications are in the collection of the Thomas J. Watson Library at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Born in the Philippines, PJ immigrated to the United States in his early teens. He lives and works between San Francisco and New York City.
Juan Omar Rodriguez (he/him) is an assistant curator at the San José Museum of Art. His recent curatorial projects include Encode/Store/Retrieve, Chelsea Thompto: The Fog, and Liliana Porter: Actualidades / Breaking News at SJMA. Juan Omar previously held curatorial positions at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in addition to organizing several exhibitions as an independent curator. His writing has been featured in the Latinx Project at NYU's online arts publication, Intervenxions.

Drop-Off Dates: May 13-17, 2024, 11am–5pm by appointment (if artist is involved with installation process they may bring work during an installation day instead, May 20 - May 22)
Exhibition Dates: May 25–July 6, 2024
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Recent artworks in all media are welcome.
A short artist statement or project statement is required.
In order to accommodate and appropriately present all submitted work, the show will be an exhibition of “small works” with a size limit of 30 inches in any direction, including frames. Out of fairness to other exhibiting artists, BAC will refuse entries that exceed size limits.
Freestanding sculpture may be up to 48 inches tall and no more than 24 inches in any other dimension. BAC will provide pedestals.
No artwork will be accepted without a fully completed submission form. The submission form deadline is March 19, 2024, at 10:59 PM PT/11:59PM MT.
Works must be ready to hang, dry, and framed where appropriate. Pieces with special hanging requirements should include hardware and a clear, typed set of instructions, where appropriate.
Artists must provide all necessary equipment with regard to sound and video works.
Work must have the artist's name clearly written on back unless the nature of the work makes it impossible to do so.

Only greater Northern California Bay Area residents may submit. Sorry, we cannot pay for shipping.
Must be current member of Berkeley Art Center.
RULES AND TERMS TO APPLY
Berkeley Art Center (BAC) and the artist agree to the following:
Artist agrees not to remove exhibited piece until the end of the exhibition.
Berkeley Art Center will provide full insurance for the stated value of each artwork.
Artist will label on the back of the work the artist’s name, title of work, medium, and indicate “top” where appropriate.
Sale of exhibited work will be conducted through BAC and all applicable sales tax will be charged. BAC requires a 30% donation/commission of the sale price from the lender. Lender will receive their portion by check upon the close of the exhibition. Artist will indicate if works are not for sale, and indicate a value for insurance purposes.
Artist agrees to allow BAC to use photographic reproductions of work to document and promote the exhibition.
Artist agrees to loan work ready-to-hang.
Artist (or designated representative) agrees to pick up work or de-install from BAC on Saturday, July 6th at 5pm.
Artist acknowledges that work left beyond 90 days may be discarded

How many artworks do I need to submit?
On the CaFE application page there are 3 image slots available for your submission. You can use these image slots in any way you choose!
(i.e. you could submit 1 image of 1 artwork, 3 images of one artwork, 3 images of 3 separate artworks, or any other combination! It’s up to you. You do not need to use all the image slots.)
Is there a theme to the Juried Members Show?
There is no theme to the show - please submit your best work!
After the jurors review the submissions, they will choose a theme that they feel is relevant to the work that they have picked.
I submitted my application but now I need to edit it. How do I do this?
Please contact us at this email <info@berkeleyartcenter.org> We need to manually adjust your application status so it may take some time to do this; while we will do our best to support you, last minute requests will not be honored due to our limited capacity.
I am a student and I submitted the Free Student Membership Google form. I didn’t get a response back. Am I a member and can I apply to the show?
Yes! You are :) Once you submit the form you are free to apply for the Juried Members Show. Mark on the CaFE form that you are a member.
I am having trouble with submitting payment for my membership. Can I still submit to the Juried Members Show?
If you are having trouble with your membership payment or other aspects of confirming your memberships, you can still proceed with your entry and we will get back to you in a week or two with support to finalize processing your membership.
